Opening Thoughts

The purpose of this e-letter is two-fold. First I would like to share information on training/racing techniques that I have developed in my fifteen years of racing/coaching. If you think there is something valuable in here that others could use, please pass it on. If there is something that you would like to see in here, send me an email. I have developed a large network of great resources and I if I don't have the answer, I will know someone who does. Secondly, this e-letter will be my personal space to brag about the athletes I coach and give them the praise they deserve--after all--it's the athlete that does the hard work.
    Train Smart,
    Coach Mike

D3 in the News
Congratulations to Max Lawler and Pat O'Connor. Both had solid races at the tough Wildflower races! Amy K ws the 2nd Masters Female at Gulf Coast, and John L was 2nd in the 45-49 age group. Congrats everyone!

Confused about your training? Did the season sneak up on you? D3 has a solution for you!
Option 1: Annual Training Plan help!
The ATP is designed for use by those who have an understanding of their training and want guidance in developing an ATP that targets a specific time or race for peak performance. The periodization based ATP will define swim, bike and run weekly volume levels and identify key weekly workouts to include: Bricks, long runs and long rides. Developing an ATP requires an initial interview and/or questionnaire. Email Mike or click here for more details.
Option 2: Denver Team Workouts.
OUR MISSION is to get you prepared to race your best in 2005! Why join Team D3 Multisport?
  • Train smarter with coached workouts that have a purpose
  • Workouts geared for all abilities from beginner to Ironman

So You Really, Really Want to I.Q.?

I can't tell you how many athletes have asked me if they think it is worth their time and the sacrifices to attempt I.Q. (I.Q. = Ironman Qualification). How are they going to do it? Should they get a new bike, or the new space age aerobars, or Stretch-Armstrong-like flexy wetsuit? Should they hire a past Ironman World Champion to give them "secret training keys to success" or get a massage every week? How about brand X versus brand Y electrolyte drink... protein in that drink or not? What these athletes are stating is: "I have a goal, and want confirmation if I should pursue it from an expert's point of view."
The answer is: You can anything you want if you put your mind and heart to it.
Once you realize that is what you desire, a good coach can help you map out a plan.
