Opening Thoughts

The purpose of this e-letter is two-fold. First I would like to share information on training/racing techniques that I have developed in my fifteen years of racing/coaching. If you think there is something valuable in here that others could use, please pass it on. If there is something that you would like to see in here, send me an email. I have developed a large network of great resources and I if I don't have the answer, I will know someone who does. Secondly, this e-letter will be my personal space to brag about the athletes I coach and give them the praise they deserve--after all--it's the athlete that does the hard work.

    Coach Mike

My Interview with the ‘Terminator’

Recently, I was listening to a Triathlete Mag interview: (http://triathletemag.com/archives.cfm?publicationID=92) with one my triathlon heroes and inspirations, Scott Molina. My very first year in triathlon was 1988, the same year that the ‘Terminator’, as Scott is known, won Ironman Hawaii. For a man who was best known for winning shorter distance races, and having trouble in the heat, this was the cherry on top of an incredible racing career. I got to meet the Terminator in the summer of 2003, when he was leading a crew of his Epic Camp participants across Colorado. Scott has been racing since the early 1980’s and even now he is still racing at the front of the pack as witnessed by his 1st overall Age Group win at Ironman AZ in 2005.

How to Change a Tire
By Jim Lewis
  1. Get off the road, or off the trail, out of traffic. Find a safe place.
  2. Release the brake.
  3. If it is rear wheel, shift to smallest cog on back. (Makes it easier to put wheel back on.)
  4. Remove the wheel from the bike.
  5. Check tire for obvious foreign articles, nails, tacks, thorns, etc. Remove as necessary.
  6. Remove tire from rim. Can use tire levers to remove ˝ of tire, or remove entire tire.
