D3 COMMUNITY NEWS

The CU Tri team is hosting the Frozen Foot 5K on Sunday, February 8 th, 2009. The race starts at 9 am from the Duane Physics building. It’s a fun fundraising event for the team. Consider it!

Speaking of the University of Colorado triathlon team, it’s a pleasure to announce that Coach Mike Ricci is now their head coach! Coach Mike looks forward to helping these outstanding student athletes reach their full potential and gain the national championship. Coach Mike also hopes to connect D3 athletes with the team from volunteering at workouts and races to helping with their fundraising. The team is self supported. It’s a CU Club Sport so it’s not funded by the same means as the football team.

Look at this stellar D3 team! Team Aquino showed up to cheer on their Dad, Brad, at the Singapore 70.3.

Thanks to everyone who responded to the D3 Sponsor Trivia contest.  Everyone who responded was correct … Polar’s specialty is heart rate monitors!  We held a random drawing of all respondents and our winner was Andy Rusk from Flagstaff, AZ. He won a running cap from Polar.   Thanks for reading the Extra Mile and keep your eyes peeled for future contests.

Do You Have What it Takes?

As the new year approaches, it’s important to reflect on your 2008 season. Did you meet your goals? Were you happy with your performance? D3 athletes are hard working, dedicated, and committed to their improvement! They are athletes who start with a goal of finishing a sprint distance race or attempting an Ironman for the first time. D3 Athletes win their age groups and go on to race Kona with stellar results. Once an athlete is part of Team D3, they become a different triathlete; refreshed, focused and, even more committed! If you believe you have desire, determination and discipline, then D3 Multisport coaching should be part of your 2009 training season. We coach a limited number of athletes so that we can provide the best service in the industry. If you want to join our team, we urge you to contact us soon for more information.

D3 Athlete Lentine Zahler thanks her coach, Mark, and says “ I couldn't have had such successful, or HEALTHY racing seasons in 2007 and 2008 without D3! Here's to 2009!” Lentine qualified for IM Kona this year. She wrote an inspiring story about her experience. Read on for her full race report …

Gretchen's Journey with Triathlon and an Eating Disorder, written by Gretchen Johnson.

My journey in life will always be changed. I thought that an Ironman would change my life style, but I was wrong. All my love of racing and challenges couldn’t change the disease/disorder that I had. The only thing that could change it, was the courage that it took to face it and drop out of the most loved thing that I had and that was training for ... read more ...
