D3 ATHLETE ACCOMPLISHMENTS

D3 athletes prevailed throughout July!
D3 even showed up in a few international locations.

  • Carrie Wolf yielded a 9 min. improvement on her swim the Brigantine sprint tri and finished with a 1:22.
  • Dian Quinn was 5th AG and 10th overall at the Half Vineman Aquabike.
  • D3 showed up for the Steelhead 70.3 Tri in Michigan. Joe Pozsgai - 5:18:22, Jon von Lackum - 7:46, and Jason Young - 5:26:44.
  • Coach Amy Kuitse qualified for 70.3 Worlds with a 4:43:24, 2nd AG and 59th overall at the Steelhead 1/2 IM.
  • Carlos Esperjel finished an Olympic distance race in Mexico with a 2:46.
  • Jeffrey Porter earned a PR at the Muncie Half with 5:29. John Von Lackum raced it to finish 6th AG with a 15 min. PR. They even endured the lightning and rain squalls.
  • Carrie Wolfe raced a 3:09.32 at the Sunset Oly Tri.
  • Maureen Kennedy's time of 51:06 at Steve's 10K Run 10k earned her 1st AG. She also raced the Valpo Sprint and finished 1st AG and 7th overall.
  • Melanie Ricci was 4th woman overall at the Steamboat Springs Spring Creek Memorial 9 Mile Trail Run.
  • D3 athletes showed up ready to race at the Boulder Peak Olympic Distance. Frank Harney – 12 minute improvement over 2007, Rich Kylberg – 6 minute improvement over 2007, Dave Sheanin – 2:32 – while working like a dog the last few weeks, Mike Conroy – another one working like a dog – dropped 13 minutes from 2007, Mark Dillard – goes on vacation and gets faster – he improved to 2:23 – from 2:30 in 2007, Bill Jones – 11 minute improvement and knocking on the door to breaking 3 hours, Ida Jonsen – 4th AG, Eric Jonsen – 6 minute improvement over 2007 and looking to break 3:00 next season, Beth Merkle – 2:50, good job despite recent injuries, Yachia Schuneman – 2:54, great race, Pat O’Connor - raced on guts, pretty much off the couch.
  • D3's colors were blazing at the Vineman Half Ironman in Santa Rosa, CA. Kirk MacDonald finished in 6:00 and had a very strong run of 2:04. He has his sights set on IMWI. John Eliot raced with a 5:08 for his 2nd 1/2 IM. Coach AJ Johnson raced a fast 4:20 and finished 18th Pro.
  • At IM Lake Placid coach Amy Kuitse finished with an 11:45 and Julia Purrington with an 11:12 for her first IM.
  • The Challenge Roth Iron Distance in Pat Rice finished with a 45 min. PR and a time of 11:39:33. This was Drew Bingham's first IM and he earned a time of 11:37.

D3 COMMUNITY NEWS

D3 group coaching begins in Boulder. This is your opportunity to train with some of the best coaches in the sport. Experience motivating workouts and receive immediate feedback. D3 is organizing a training group that will meet for weekly swim, bike and run workouts. With 16 workouts per month, it's an incredible value at $99. This is less than $6.25 per workout!

Joe Pozsgai finished Steelhead 70.3 on August 2nd and then took his wife, Sue, to see the Cubs play.  This was to celebrate their 24th wedding anniversary.  Sue happens to be the Cubs fan.  Congrats to Joe and Sue!

D3's international reach continues to grow! Brad Aquino, his wife and four children have relocated to Singapore for the next 2 years.  Brad will be representing the D3 community on Sept 7th in the Singapore 70.3 race.  All the best to Brad!

Coach Amy has been spearheading a new running group in South Bend, Indiana. With 27 particpants, they have appreciated her coaching skills, attention and talent!

Martina Young appeared in her second issue of Inside Triathlon magazine. Look for her in the July issue!
