2009 is in the books!

Totals for 2009 are in:
Swim: 272k, Bike 3222m, and Run 1126m. Also put in about 24 hours of strength training. That totals up to 457 hours for the year. In the last 21 years, I've averaged 1 hour per day of exercise. I can live with that. :)

2009 was definitely my year to get back in shape after a disastrous 2008 - (336 hours after taking 8 months off). The plan is to build on 2009 and see if I can raise the bar in 2010.
The Dream Season:
Best case scenario: Swim 500k, Bike 5000m, and run 1500 miles. That would be about 117 hours of swimming, 280 hours of biking, and 220 hours of running - if I can get in 1 hour per week of lifting that would be an additional 52 hours so 671 hours in total.

I don't live in a fantasy world, so my real world goals are:
300k of swimming. 4000m of biking and 1400m of running. If I can strenght train 30-40 hours that would be solid. That would give me a total of 530-540 hours, which is WAY more realistic.

The real unknown is how the new baby will affect all this - hopefully not much. The good thing is that I am only racing up to OLY distance in 2010, and I have done 500 hour years a few times, which takes focus, but isn't totally off the hook. So, I'll set the volume bar low, but the quality bar high and see where I get with that. In the next post I'll talk about my plan for 2010, and what it will take to reach my 2010 goals.
Happy New Year!
